A PSALM OF THANKSGIVING
by Eulene MooresFor Salvation, Redemption and Deliverance, I give You thanks and praise. That I should be chosen, called and justified is beyond my comprehension. I can only bow in humble gratitude for Your "Goodness and Mercy," Your "Grace and Truth" which You have revealed to me in Christ Jesus my Lord. For the Faith with which You have gifted me I thank You; Faith which gives me forgiveness for my past, confidence in my present, and expectation for my future.
I praise You for the incomprehensible Love with which You have loved me, and continue to love me. Such Love fills me with "Joy unspeakable and full of glory," and "Peace that passes understanding." You have taught me to trust You, for you are completely Trustworthy, and that gives me Rest which refreshes and invigorates my whole being. Your Sovereign Omnipotence is a secure fortress for my faith, and Your Omnipresence is a consolation for my soul. Your Faithfulness is great beyond measure; Your Mercies introduce the dawning of each new day. My heart is filled with thanksgiving.
For the Love of my Family I am truly grateful. I praise you for giving me a Husband who loves and respects me, who is thoughtful and caring, and with whom I can fellowship and share the joys and sorrows of life; who cheerfully works around the home and tends to the fireplace with persistent care! I praise you for the Children You have given me, together with their Spouses; each one is so very special in his(her) own way. You have gifted them with health, intelligence, integrity, creativity, and spiritual sensitivity. For their love and concern for me I give You thanks. I am so grateful for each one of my precious Grandchildren and all the blessings with which You have blest them. Your mercies have indeed been visited to the third and fourth generations.
For the Love of my Friends I am also very grateful. Friendships are some of the best of Life's treasures, and You have gifted me with some very special ones, and dear to me. Thank you.
I appreciate Your gifts of sanity, intellect, memory and imagination. I appreciate having an education that enables me to read, write and converse with understanding, and to have some knowledge of the wonderful world in which I live. I thank You for the measure of creativity which You have created in me, and the appreciation of music and art and craftsmanship. I thank you for inspiration and motivation. You, Yourself, worked six days and rested one; You made us to do the same, and I thank You for the satisfaction and fulfilment that comes from the accomplishment of even the most menial tasks.
I give You praise for the measure of physical health and strength which I have always enjoyed, and do to this day; for the possession of all of my faculties: seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling; for the normal functioning of all of my bodily processes. You have blest me with physical well-being far beyond what I merit, and You hold all of my times in Your hand. For sound sleep that gives refreshment to the body, and an abundance of good food that gives strength, I am filled with thanksgiving.
When I look upon the beauties of nature, its colors, shapes and sounds, my spirit is exalted in worship and adoration to You, the Creator of it all. The majestic mountains with snow-capped peaks, the sapphire sky, the verdent trees, the beauty and fragrance of the flowers, the abundant produce of the garden the sun and the rain, the wind and the snow, all show forth Your Glory and Power. The birds that sing Your praise even in the night season, the fox that trots across the yard, the squirrels that chatter in the trees, the rabbits that hop through the grass, and the deer that stroll across the lawn, all manifest Your great Wisdom and Might. My soul is lifted up to bless You.
For the home that You have given me, I never cease to thank You. The comfort, peace and tranquility that are resident here are blessings beyond compare. It is a shelter from the cold of winter as well as the heat of summer. It is a place to which the Family may come home, and a place to which our Friends may gather to fellowship. But it is more. It is a haven from the noises and pressures of the world around - a place where my body is revived, my soul is renewed, and my spirit is rejuvenated.
How shall I bless You? And how shall I give You thanks adequate for Your Lovingkindness and Tender Mercies? They reach beyond the far reaches of the earth unto the Heaven of heavens, and I am bound by earthly human limitations! My spirit cries out within me as I struggle within the confines of my chrysalis, "How long? O, Lord, how long? until this "corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality?" My soul groans and travails awaiting deliverance "from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God."
But while I wait for the bursting forth of Resurrection Life, I praise and extol the glories of my King and my God, and I sing a Psalm of Thanksgiving to Him Who alone is worthy of all Blessing and Honour and Glory and Power
Amen!
